In a seemingly endless stream of projects, one was finally released last weekend and it's name is Parafoil.  Parafoil is a mobile application, very similar to an IPhone app, however created for a different set of devices.

What Is Parafoil

Parafoil is a mobile application that runs on the Palm's new WebOS devices, currently the Palm Pre, and the Palm Pixi.  Parafoil is a mobile interface to a service called Brightkite, which is location-based social network that enables you meet people based on the places you go, or just share your location and photos with friends.

In a nutshell how it works is that your phone finds your location using GPS, you can then post a photo, text, or just simply check-in to that location.  This then appears in a stream that your friends, or everyone can see depending on what you allow.

Why the Name Parafoil

The name was really decided upon as a extension of the service it's build on Brightkite.  Playing off the kite part of their name we used the name and image of a particular kind of kite known as a Parafoil.  Parafoils are probably more well known as a type of parachute with a squarish slightly curved canopy.  Really the name doesn't have much more significance than that.

There will soon be a free demo of Parafoil that will be available for say a 7 day trial, however you would have to purchase it after that.

Parafoil is available right now in the App Catalog on your phone for $1.99, click the button below to go get it now.
