Five weeks in. Five weeks and the scale has gone down significantly. I continue to shed almost two pounds a week on average and it’s getting really easy to stick to. It’s automatic. It’s routine. It’s easy.

It’s slow and steady, but the weight is coming off and I am now down over ten pounds from when I started a little over a month ago. It’s not super speedy, but I am getting there. Earlier in the week I was walking my dog Breezy and ran across this guy making his way across the sidewalk. As I was writing this it made me think of him. Slow and steady.

This was a pretty standard work week. I started it off with 4 straight days of commuting to and from the office. I didn’t ride on Friday for a couple of reasons. My girlfriend’s company party was that day and wasn’t far from my office. She had to drive in as part of the party setup, so I caught a ride with her. I was also resting my legs a little bit for a ride around Mercer Island with a couple coworkers and my friend Dan on Saturday. More on that later.

The was a lot of fun. Great venue at the Olympic Sculpture Park, with some fantastic food. Of course this type of food isn’t easy to track accurately, but I tried to keep my portions somewhat in check. The homemade ice cream sandwiched between two homemade cookies probably didn’t help me much, but it was a treat and I won’t let it affect me.

That being said I need to focus on getting my water today and get all this flushed out of my system so I can keep things moving into next week.

We decided Saturday that we hadn’t been out together in a while and we decided to do dinner and movie. We saw Guardians of the Galaxy, which I would definitely recommend. I really enjoyed it despite not really being a big Marvel fan. Dinner was at a fantastic new place in Seattle’s Belltown neighborhood called Belle + Whete. Was a really great place with really great food, perfect portions and really good service. We will definitely be going back sometime soon.

As far as workouts go, I made two trips around the Mercer Island Loop again which got me an additional 34 miles in addition to 29 from my commutes all week, and some one mile walks I have been trying to take during the noon hours at the office. The Mercer Island loop was a lot faster than the first as I was riding in a group of 4 and we were all drafting off each other quite well to keep up a pretty good pace. The distance was a little bit different, but certainly was a much faster average pace than earlier in the week.

I made a handful of cycling purchases this week as well with some new cycling shorts and some new arm warmers. It’s starting to get cooler and cooler in the mornings so these things are going to come in handy real quick. The shorts were a match to a Iowa Hawkeye jersey I have had for years that I haven’t really fit into. Now that I I do, I needed some black or matching shorts.

Weigh In

This week I toyed with the 100’s and got down to 200.6. I almost immediately rebounded from that, however I am still seeing the trend going down, so I am happy with that and that’s enough to keep me motivated.

Weight report for the week of August 3rd.

I didn’t weigh in this morning after a Friday and Saturday of not really sticking to my eating habits. I will get back on that today and roll it into next week. The good news is that things are starting to fit better, and I am even really close to getting back into some shorts and pants I had lost the ability to wear.

I work out so I can go out

A lot of my work on the bike this week was probably wiped out by my eating the past couple of days, but as long as it’s not a trend heading up I am still happy. As my old mentor on Motivation to Move used to say “I work out so I can go out”

I will course correct next week. Onto the next one!
